Trailer Crushes Tricycle Passenger In Lagos (Graphic Photo)
It was sorrow and chaos on Saturday along Abattoir Road, in the Agege area of Lagos State after a trailer driver, identified as Emmanuel George, crushed a tricycle passenger to death.
It gathered that Isa Sanni a passenger in the tricycle was crushed to death when he fell off the tricycle onto the road and was immediately ran over by the front tyres of the trailer.
An angry mob nearly lynched the driver of the trailer to death before policemen saved his life. The incident which happened around 2pm caused a traffic gridlock.
An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who witnessed the incident said, “There were two vehicles involved in the accident – a trailer, with number plate, LSR 615 XB, and a tricycle, with number plate, GGE 393 QC.
“The trailer was coming from the Abule Egba area and heading towards the Total area, while the tricycle rider, who had three passengers, rode out from an access road onto the highway.
“The rider of the tricycle ran into the path of the trailer, which hit it. The victim fell onto the road in the process and as he struggled to get out, the trailer’s tyres climbed his head.
“The trailer driver was unaware of the accident, until he heard the noise that somebody had been killed.”
He said attempts by LASTMA to tow away the truck from the road were frustrated by the mob that wanted to burn it.
“There were people everywhere and it took the intervention of the police to prevent a total breakdown of law and order. The deceased’s family members later showed up,” he added.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, while confirming the incident.
