Mesut Ozil wants to leave Arsenal at the end of the season and has rejected the club’s offer of a new contract, according to Marca.
The report claims that the midfielder does not see Arsenal turning into a team that can realistically win the Champions League – a promise that was made to him when he joined from Real Madrid in 2013.
Marca also report that Barcelona have approached the Germany international’s representatives and are aware of the player’s current situation.
The Spanish champions rate Ozil highly, and their interest dates back as far as 2010 when he could have joined Barcelona ahead of Real Madrid, but Pep Guardiola believed that his arrival could stifle Thiago Alcantara’s progression to the first team.
One potential problem for Barcelona would be the competition they will face for Ozil, whose contract expires in 2018, while last season’s Champions League winners could struggle to sign a marquee midfielder, as well as cover in defence and attack
