Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes First Athlete To Hit 200 Million Social Media Followers
Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first athlete to surpass 200 million followers on social media.
Ronaldo has 109.7 million followers on Facebook, 49.6 million on Instagram and 40.7 million on Twitter. His social following is 64% larger than Messi’s, who is not on Twitter.
Social media tracking database, Hookit, confirmed that Ronaldo crossed the 200 million threshold on Tuesday, when his combined total hit 200,058,494.
Ronaldo, who averages 135,000 new followers a day, also has more followers than the combined total of basketball stars LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry, who combine to garner 187 million.
Ronaldo became the first athlete to cross the 100 million barrier on Facebook in 2014, and today he is the third celebrity to cross the 200 million threshold across the three major platforms. Ronaldo joins Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift in the 200 million club.
