BREAKING: Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu of PDP Elected Deputy Senate President

History was made Tuesday as Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party emerged as Deputy Senate President for the 8th Senate which was inaugurated today.
Ekweremadu defeated Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume of All Progressives Congress in an election conducted in the Senate chamber. He polled 54 votes as against Ndume’s 20 votes, and emerged victorious.
Consequently, he has been sworn-in by the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly.
Ekweremadu was the immediate past Deputy Senate President of the 7th Assembly and was nominated by Senator George Sekibo from Rivers State.
This is the first time since the return of Democracy that an opposition party would be producing the Deputy Senate President.
