Bayelsa Monarch Berates Fr. Mbaka Over Comments On Jonathan
The Paramount Ruler of Akipelai community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, Chief Asara Asara, has berated clergymen who have turned their pulpits into campaign arenas, describing the trend as “mischievous and dangerous for the country’s democracy.”
Asara, who was reacting to recent comments by Catholic priest, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka on President Goodluck Jonathan, in his country home in Akipelai, advised the clergy to focus on their divine calling of preaching the message of salvation to mankind rather than getting involved in politics.
He said: “The likes of Mbaka are money conscious and have turned churches into business centres and are obtaining money for the performance of miracles.”
He stressed that unguarded utterances by the clergy will make even the saints to withdraw from churches.
Asara advised the clergy to desist from making inflammatory comments on candidates and political parties to avoid causing disaffection among the people as elections draw near.
