Reason Why Jonathan Was Booed in OAU
A Self-acclaimed President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Ali Wali has said that President Goodluck Jonathan was booed at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, because his administration recognises people who are not students as presented by his aide on Youth and Students matters.
He alleged that the Senior Special Assistant to President on Student and Youth Matters (SSPA), Com. Jude Imagwe was the one causing disaffection in NANS and the Youth Council, because he always presents non-students as students to Mr President, the situation that made students feel shortchanged in the scheme of things in the country.
Meanwhile, the SSPA, Com. Jude Imagwe, disowned Ali Wali, just as he insists there is âno crisis in NANSâ.
Wali, who made the accusation during a press conference, in Abuja, said misrepresentation had been the basis of crisis in the association, and even in the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
âWe state here categorically that Jude Imagwe has never for once mobilized any legitimate students to attend any function of Mr President and a clear example of how bitter some of these students feel was displayed in OAU Ife recently.
âThe student protest was not completely intended to embarrass the President, but to inform him that his SSPA does not have the kind of control over students as he claims.
âThe SSPA is today sponsoring one Mr Usman Tijani, who we earlier said is a 45 years old man, who is not a student.â
However, Imagwe in his reaction wondered why Ali Wali would be parading himself as President of NANS, when he deliberately stepped down in Asaba during NANS congress that produced Usman Tijani as the President of NANS.
He revealed that Ali Wali had been to his office in Abuja pleading with him to talk to Tijani to make him (Ali) a Secretary in his administration, the idea that was frankly rejected by Tijani.
Imagwe said Wali was acting out a script either written by some body or himself to discredit him and his office, urging Nigerians not to listen to him, as all the allegations were not true.
