Ijaw Youths Slams Amaechi Over Comment On Jonathan
Ijaw youths, under the aegis of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, yesterday, flayed Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State over his claim that President Goodluck Jonathan was sponsoring the Boko Haram sect in the North East states of Yobe, Adamawa and Borno.
IYC described Amaechi’s claim and recent utterances that a parallel government would be formed if the 2015 elections were rigged by the ruling party as disappointing, saying it clearly shows that he was no longer fit to be a governor of a state.
In a statement in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Eric Omare, IYC described Amaechi’s utterances as reckless and not befitting of his office.
It said: “We condemn in the strongest terms the statement credited to Governor Amaechi to the effect that President Jonathan is sponsoring Boko Haram in the North eastern states of Yobe, Adamawa and Borno because of the 2015 elections.
“We regard this statement as reckless and not befitting the holder of the office of a governor of a state. It is most disappointing that Amaechi could make such a statement at a time the entire nation is mourning the tragic death of over 100 people at the Central Mosque, Kano.
“The statement, coming at a time when Nigerians and especially political leaders are supposed to close ranks to collectively confront the Boko Haram insurgency, clearly shows that Governor Amaechi and his likes have taken politics over and above the lives of the Nigerian people.
“Governor Amaechi who promised to form a parallel government in 2015 only two weeks ago to be playing politics with the Boko Haram insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives shows that he is no longer a fit and proper person to hold the office of a governor.
“The office of governor goes with a sense of responsibility which Governor Amaechi has in recent times failed to uphold and discharge.”
