Jonathan Commissions New International Airport In Kebbi

President Goodluck Jonathan was in Kebbi yesterday as part of his one-day official visit to the state to commission the Kebbi International Airport and to officially flag off the Federal Government’s afforestation programme ‘The Great Green Wall Project’ in Bachaka village of Kangiwa Local Government.
The presidential aircraft touched down at the Binin Kebbi International Airport at exactly 11:05 am. The president was accompanied by the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, and his counterparts in environment, Mrs.Laurentia Malam and special duties, Kabiru Tanimu (SAN).
In his speech, at the commissioning ceremony of the airport, named Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Jonathan commended the foresight of Governor Dakingari in constructing an airport with state of the art aviation facilities, assuring the federal government would Kebbi in developing the aviation industry.
He said the airport would facilitate air travel linkages with francophone countries, improve commerce and other economic activities which will help boost the economy.
“The federal government has taken keen interest in the development of not only Sir Ahmadu Bello Airport but all the airports because aviation is an important sector,” he said.
Jonathan explained that five PDP states of Delta, Akwa Ibom, Jigawa, Kebbi and Kogi had built standard airports while the Federal Government built an international airport in Enugu.
Governor Dakingari of Kebbi State, said the airport which was upgraded to international standard for the landing of Boeing 747 aircraft would generate N2.3 billion annually to the Nigerian economy, boost commerce, tourism and movement of agricultural products.
