'Why I Dumped PDP'- Tamwubal
House of Reps speaker Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, who has recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), explained November 12 the reasons for his decision.
It would be noted that Tambuwal’s move caused a highly-publicized scandal in Nigeria’s politics. Today as he spoke at the 6th anniversary celebration of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, the politician explained that the dumped the ruling party because the system had been “hijacked” by a “cabal”, The Nation reports.
He concluded that such system needed to be changed.
“We have accepted to join the movement of progressives to change the system. The system today is malfunctioning and has failed in several ways. You have to change a system that is not working. We have a cabal that has hijacked the instrument of authority. We should vote them out in February. What do the people of the South South have to show for voting the President? Nothing.”
Tambuwal expressed concern that people from the South South may vote for the leader in 2015 elections based on the sentiments saying however that mere sentiments would not produce a good leader. Thus, the speaker urged people not to be deceived by sentiments.
Meanwhile President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday, November 11, officially declared his interest to run for re-election in February of the next year. His speech was followed by the immediate reaction of the APC.
The opposition party accused GEJ of being insensitive and advancing his political interests only a day after a dire terror attack on Potiskum school killed, according to the latest update, 58 people.
