APC Senator, Gaya Kabiru Asks Buhari, Atiku To Step Down For Kwankwaso
Ahead of All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primaries, Senator Kabiru Gaya, representing Kano South Senatorial District has pleaded with former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and ex-Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to step down for Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso as the presidential candidate of the party.
Gaya made the plea in Abuja, yesterday, in an interview with journalists.
He described Buhari and Atiku as respected elder statesmen, who had rendered services in various ways to the country.
The former governor of Kano State said it was time for the duo to sacrifice their presidential ambition by allowing a more vibrant and younger person, such as Governor Kwakwanso, to be the party’s candidate in the 2015 presidential election.
Besides, he said that Kwakwanso, being a former Minister of Defence, would be able to tackle effectively the security challenges facing the country, especially the insurgency issue in the north-eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.
Senator Gaya said: “I am not trying to introduce politics into the situation, but we have to tell ourselves the truth.
“He was a legislator being a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; Special Adviser to the President on Dafur and was a member of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, hence he has the credentials.
“He is a young man too. He can work for 18 hours a day.
“I believe our elders and leaders in APC would support him. If you look at the situation in other countries, their citizens are going for young people as president.”
