Troops Flee For Safety As Boko Haram Attacks Mubi
Following Boko Haram attack in Mubi, Adamawa state which resulted in residents fleeing including troops, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters has confirmed that an entire battalion of soldiers fled the town of Mubi.
According to Sahara Reporters, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters will carry out an investigation as to why troops fled the town when the militants attacked.
Meanwhile a senior military source has said there was no reason for the Special Operation Battalion troops stationed in Mubi to have fled as in a bid to put an end to the Boko Haram, an engage in a fierce battle with the sect, five artillery tanks had been brought into Mubi in the last few days.
The source also stated that the army had decided to use the headquarters in Mubi to launch an attack to retake several towns from Boko Haram in the coming days.
However, efforts are being in pace to replace the fleeing troops with new ones so as to continue the fight to rid the town of the Islamist group.
It was reported today, that Mubi was thrown into chaos as the dreaded Boko Haram sect attacked the town, killing residents, thereby causing many to flee the town for their lives.
There are reports the Islamist group has hoisted its flag in the town.
Meanwhile P.P Elisha, the director Press and Public Affairs to Adamawa governor has urged residents to remain calm as security agents are on the top of situation.
The Nigerian military are yet to officially make any statement in regards to the Mubi attack.
Recall, in September 2014, the Defence headquarters, DHQ declared that the troops are ready to fight and reclaim the troubled towns such as Mubi, Michika amongst others taken over by the sect.
Earlier this month, the Director of Catholic Social Communication of Maiduguri Diocese, Rev. Gideon Obasogie, said that 185 churches in the diocese were set ablaze and 190, 545 people displaced after Boko Haram insurgents captured 11 towns in Borno and Adamawa states.
