BREAKING NEWS: Bala Ngilari Emerges Adamawa Governor
Adamawa State deputy governor under impeached Governor Murtala Nyako, Bala Ngilari, has emerged the new governor of the state.
According to Sahara Reporters, Ngilari, was on Wednesday sworn in as the state executive governor by the state’s acting Chief Judge, Justice Ambrose Mammadi.
The swearing in was reportedly done hours after a federal court in Abuja sacked the acting governor of the state, Umar Fintiri.
It would be recalled that Fintiri, who was a former speaker of the state House of Assembly, took the position of acting governor after the impeachment of the former governor, Murtala Nyako as well as the controversial “resignation” of Nyako’s deputy, Ngilari.
Ngilari, had earlier complained that his resignation letter, which is constitutionally supposed to be received by the sacked governor Nyako, was reportedly received and endorsed by Fintiri, who was a speaker then.
An Abuja Federal High Court in its verdict on Wednesday, accepted Ngilari’s prayer that Fintiri be removed while he should be immediately sworn in as the state’s governor.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Ademola held that Ngilari, who was then a deputy governor did not resign from office in accordance with Section 306 (1) (2) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
Justice Ademola also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to stop the state governorship bye-election which was initially scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2014, and granted all the prayers of Ngilari.
It would be recalled that Ngilari had filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order compelling his swearing in as the governor of the state, while also asking the court to declare his resignation letter dated July 14, 2014 and addressed to the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, as illegal, null and void.
Earlier today, Wednesday 8, 2014, a Federal High Court has ordered the removal of Ahmadu Fintiri, the acting governor of Adamawa state while asking the State’s Chief Judge to immediately swear in the former Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari.
Meanwhile, Fintiri had already emerged the candidate representing Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic party, PDP, in the just concluded primaries.
