OOU Students Protest Over Fees Hike, Destroy Properties (Photos)
Dozens of furious students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, poured into the streets in a violent protest against increased tuition fees in tertiary institutions, Ogun State.
The rally started about 6.30am 15 August in Abeokuta and ended with destruction of vehicles and other public property. It also caused traffic jam on major roads like Oke Ilewo, Kuto, Ibara among others.
The students barricaded the Presidential boulevard – a route leading to the Governor’s office waiting for the governor to talk to them. A heated protest was sparked by a recent rise in the school fees by the state governor Ibikunle Amosun.
Currently the situation is under control of policemen who are now in strategic places to prevent the breakdown of law and order. Also an armoured personnel carrier, APC, has been stationed at Kuto Roundabout to prevent the students from moving to the governor’s office.
