Nigeria international defender, Kenneth Omeruo has revealed that Chelsea manager, Jose Mourino told him there was no place for him in the first team of the Blues for the 2014/15 season.
Omeruo announced on Sunday that he was moving back on loan to English Championship club, Middlesbrough ahead of the new season.
The 20-year-old has now revealed that the decision was reached after a candid chat with Mourinho and the club’s technical director, Michael Emenalo.
“I had a chat with Michael Emenalo and after hearing the plans Chelsea had for me next season, I think the best place for me to achieve this goal is to go back to Middlesbrough.
“I want to thank Chelsea and according to Mourinho, Middlesbrough is the best place for me to gain enough experience and play a lot of games.
“I made a decision after hearing from Mourinho and Emenalo and I am happy with my decision,” Omeruo told supersport.com.
The former ADO Den Haag man added that the success he recorded at the Championship side in the 2013/14 season also influenced his decision to return to the Riverside Stadium.
“I have already established myself at Middlesbrough. The fans love me and the manager as well. Hopefully, I will get to play every game (for the club).
“We will try to push the team towards promotion,” he said
