BREAKING: Over Five People Feared Dead In Borno Suicide Explosion
Five people including a plain-cloth police officer, were killed while several others injured in an explosion in Konduga town, Borno on Friday.
Premium times reports that the explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber who had planted Improvise Explosive Device, IED in the pickup van loaded with firewood he was driving, then detonated the bomb at a security checkpoint as the curious members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, JTF, were trying to carry out a normal search on the vehicle before allowing it to pass.
A top security source who confirmed the news to journalists said: “There was a blast targeted at the members of the Civilian-JTF manning a checkpoint in Konduga, about five persons were reportedly killed and several others injured.
The pickup van had approached the checkpoint at about noon and as the local security operatives tried to flag down the car, the driver who was on a suicide mission detonated the explosive device that led to the death of five persons among who was a plain cloth police officer from the Criminal Investigation Bureau.”
Konduga is in Northeast state of Borno, which is the heartbeat of the Boko Haram insurgents and about 35 kilometres to Maiduguri, the state capital.
The attack on Konduga took place few hours after Boko Haram gunmen had attempted to attack a military base in Damboa town, 85km south of Maiduguri the Borno State capital on Thursday night and Friday morning, but ended up with a heavy casualty.
The Boko Haram insurgents have continued with their deadly attacks despite a state of emergency declared on Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe by the federal government.
On July 1 it was reported that at least 18 people dead with 55 others severely injured in a bomb explosion which rocked the state.
It was reported last month that the Boko Haram sects abducted 91 Persons, Killed 4 In Borno. Not forgetting the over 200 Chibok school girls abducted by the sects on April 14 in the state who have not yet be found.
