"I Will Rule According To Sharia" – New Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido

The newly appointed Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has said he would rule according to the tenets of Islam and Sharia.
He made this promise on Monday, June 9, when Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwasowe presented him the letter of appointment.
Sanusi, who emerged as the emir on June 8 after his predecessor late Alhaji Ado Bayero passed away, thanked Allah for choosing him to rule Kano as the 14th emir. He also expressed gratitude to the governor, the kingmakers and all others who made his appointment possible.
The new emir called for calm in Kano, and said he would ensure the development of the ancient city.
Presenting the letter to Sanusi, Kano governor said the former CBN boss was selected because of his exposure, competence and experience.
In attendance were all the kingmakers, including Madakin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf N. Cigari; Makaman Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Sarki Ibrahim; Sarkin Dawaki Maituta, Alhaji Bello Abubakar; the Sarkin Bai, Alhaji Mukhtari Adnan and the Senior Councilor of the Emirate Council, Wamban Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi.
Also present at the ceremony were Senator Kabiru Gaya and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Malam Nasir el-Rufa’i.
On Monday morning, pro and anti-Sanusi protesters clashed in a new round of demonstrations over the appointment of Sanusi. The clash was said to have occurred on the road leading to the emir’s palace and Kofar Nasarawa at about 10.30am. But a squad from the state police command quickly restored sanity, Nigerian Tribune reports.
The state Police Public Relations Officer Magaji Musa Majia confirmed the disturbances but debunked the reports that 3 people were killed.
Meanwhile, emir’s palace continued to be under surveillance on Tuesday as security operatives cordoned off the area to forestall breakdown of law and order.
