UPDATED: Police Foils Bomb Attack Beside Mosque In Kano
Latest reports emanating from Kano, northern Nigeria indicate that the Nigeria police command in Kano on Friday, 27 June, 2014 foiled a terror attack that would have caused a bloodbath in the ancient city.
According to Premium Times, a 13-year-old boy, discovered a massive bomb placed in a car near a Jumuat Mosque in Kano and promptly alerted the police.
The police spokesperson in Kano, Magaji Majiya, stated that the boy became suspicious after noticing the abandoned car looking “heavy with loads.”
“The bomb targeting worshippers was placed inside a Toyota Tercel car near a Mosque in Sauna Pfanuga area of Nasarawa Local Government, Kano metropolis,” Mr. Majiya said.
He also said that the boy alerted the police nearby and the anti-bomb squad were invited to the scene.
“They successfully defused the bomb and site and the car had been taken to Police Headquarters for further investigations and analysis,” he said.
The police spokesperson said no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
PUNCH online also reports that the police recovered 13 Improvised Explosive Device, IED, at the scene.
it could be recalled that eight persons were killed in a bomb blast that happened on Monday, 23 June, 2014 at the School of Hygiene in Kano.
According to the Commissioner of Police in Kano state, Adenrele Shinaba, the blast occurred at about 2:05pm inside the school located along Bayero University Kano, BUK, road in Kano.
Speaking with newsmen after the attack, Mr. Shinaba infomed that several others were injured in the incident.
He also said one suspect was arrested in connection with the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast although the insurgent Boko Haram has carried out similar attacks in Kano and other northern states.
