Police Officers Gang-Rape Indian Woman Inside Station

An Indian woman has accused four police officers of gang-raping at a police station in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The woman who filed a complaint with a senior officer on Wednesday over the attack, said she had gone to the station in the Hamirpur district on Monday night to seek for the release of her husband and she was asked for a bribe which she refused to pay and so she was raped.
“At 11.30pm when there was no one in the room the sub-inspector took me to his room and raped me inside the police station,” she said.
Confirming the incident, Sub-inspector Balbir Singh said a criminal case had been lodged against four officers from the station.
A police official from Hamirpur, Virendra Kumar Shekhar disclosed that the police will follow procedures and the guilty officers will be arrested soon.
This is the latest in a string of rapes and murders plaguing India.
Last month, two cousins, aged 12 and 14, were gang-raped and their bodies were later found hung on a tree.
Also the body of 22-year-old girl, who was gang-raped, strangled and defaced with acid was discovered by Police officers in Uttar Pradesh, India.
Following the December 2012, gang- rape of a student in New Delhi, there was public outcry both locally and internationally for better treatment for the country’s women. Despite this call, rape cases has continued to be on the increase in the country.
