Moses back to training, set for France encounter
Eyebrows were raised when Nigeria winger, Victor Moses was hurled off after just 52 minutes of Nigeria’s opening 2014 World Cup clash against Iran.
The Super Eagles were struggling to break down the Team Melli defence and Moses, a truly outrageously gifted individual, was widely viewed by many as the man to pull the magical strings.
Nigeria head coach, Stephen Keshi thought differently and promptly hurled off the Chelsea man to the consternation of many.
It was rather puzzling as Keshi had exclusively told supersport.com shortly before the Super Eagles departed for Brazil that Moses would be one of his key dramatis personae in the land of the Samba.
“The kid (Moses) is special. He will go places and if we are to do well in Brazil, he is one of the players I expect to be on top of their game,” he said.
Moses has not played a single minute of Nigeria’s last two games in Brazil against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Argentina with conspiracy theorists ruling that Keshi may be having “personal issues” with the former Wigan Athletic winger.
The “Big Boss” swiftly moved to quash the rumours through Super Eagles spokesman, Ben Alaiya.
“It’s (Moses continued snub from Nigeria matches at the World Cup) purely medical. My last child is older that Moses, so why will I quarrel with my son? People must find out facts and not speculate especially when we have a capable media person in our midst,” Keshi was quoted as saying.
.
The coach then added that Moses has a muscle strain that was discovered by the team’s medics after the first game against Iran.
Keshi said Moses was advised by the doctors to “rest” to achieve optimum results in subsequent matches.
“We can understand that all players want to play at the big stage but it’s up to us and the medical team to manage their career and balance it with due diligence regarding their health and that is why we have not played him. We hope he should be back in training later on Thursday,” Keshi said.
Moses then moved to lend credence to Keshi’s views by taking to Twitter to discuss the situation.
“The lads were brilliant again yesterday against Argentina) and did the country proud. Gutted to miss it again with a muscle strain,” he tweeted via @VictorMoses.
Latest developments and the injury suffered by Volyn man, Babatunde Michael now suggests that Moses will likely be one of the first names on the team sheet as Nigeria prepared to face France in the round of 16 on June 30 in Brasilia.
