According to Premium Times, the impeachment notice was directed to the two officials on Wednesday, June 18.
At the same time, 19 out of 25 Adamawa House of Assembly Members signed Nyako’s impeachment notice, containing the allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy.
In a parallel development, the federal aviation authorities prevented the takeoff of Governor Nyako’s chartered jet from at the Yola International Airport. The embattled governor inteded to depart for Abuja to witness the inauguration of the newly-elected leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to SaharaReporters, the governor and his team were forced to travel about 250km to Gombe, where they boarded another flight for the capital of the country.
Since Nyako’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, the governor has been caught in a running battle with the lawmakers.
It would be recalled that he made the move in the end of 2013 saying that the ruling party had disappointed Nigerians.
Rumours about the possible impeachment proceedings first surfaced in May, when the Presidency and the PDP allegedly considered plot following the governor’s memo on security sent to the Nothern leaders.
Tension intensified last Wednesday when the Assembly ordered the arrest of 4 state commissioners over their failure to show up before the House to answer to answer questions regarding the state of finance.
More details coming soon.
