Husband And Wife Turn Court To Battle Ground During Divorce Proceeding

A mild drama ensued at an Ikeja magistrate court when a man identified as Olufemi Ogbiyele and his wife, Bola Ogbiyele seeking divorce turned the court into a battlefield.
According to report, the fight was triggered after a
friend of the couple pleaded with the husband to settle out of court but Mr Ogbiyele wouldn’t listen rather he grabbed his wife’s handbag, demanding custody of their three children. He also reportedly beat her inside the court to the amazement of those in court.
Explaining how the couple’s problem started, counsel to the wife, Barrister Shittu Oladeyinde said it all began in February last year when the woman locked herself up in the children’s room after a good beating from her husband, after which she left for her mother’s house to avoid more beating.
The husband was approached another lawyer, Barrister Taiwo and a pastor to settle things with his wife and take her home but he said he’d only do so if she stopped working, a condition the woman rejected. The man then proceeded to file for divorce, asking his wife to prepare her lawyers.
Speaking to the court, Mr Ogbiyele accused his wife of sleeping around with different men when she traveled to the United Kingdom in March 2012. She also slapped him in February of same year when
he accused her of stealing his properties and asked her lovers to beat him for bringing up such an allegation against her.
Th second counsel to the wife, Akin Aroyewo however accused the man of being frivolous and temperamental, saying the wife left home avoid being killed by her husband who wanted to do so with an iron
belt.
