Arise TV’s Sommie Maduagwu Prayed ‘May Nigeria Never Happen to Me’ a Month Before She Lost Her Life

She died on Monday morning after armed men invaded her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja, a month after her post on X. She was 29.

While she never shared any context for the post, it may have been a reflection on the spate of national insecurity or something unwholesome she had perceived directly or indirectly.
According to AriseTV, the police were investigating the incident
“It is with heavy hearts that the management and staff of the ARISE News Channel announce the passing of our beloved colleague, News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu. Sommie tragically passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, following an armed robbery incident in her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja that is being investigated by the Nigeria Police,” the broadcasting station announced on Monday.
Maduagwu joined the station in September 2024. Before picking up a broadcasting career, she represented Nigeria at the Miss Tourism World pageant in Quanzhou, China, in 2023
