Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a fire that broke out early Wednesday morning at the Alaba Rago Market in the Ojo area of Lagos State.



The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Femi Oke-Osayintolu, disclosed that the fire started around midnight.

According to him, the LASEMA team stormed the market following distress calls, activated the State’s emergency response plans, and deployed its Emergency Response Team from Igando.

He added that the authority activated the state’s emergency response plan and sent their team from Igando to help.

He stated that the team found some makeshift shops already on fire when they arrived at the scene, adding that firefighters from the state Fire and Rescue Service, with LASEMA and other emergency workers, were on the scene working to put out the flames.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye and Oke-Osayintolu disclosed that the fire was brought under control adding that it was prevented from spreading to other properties.

On November 30, a fire outbreak at a spare parts market in the Idumota area of Lagos State also destroyed property worth millions of naira.

Oke-Osanyintolu who confirmed the incident said no casualties were recorded at the incident scene, and no injuries were sustained due to the incident.
