The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed the claims that it discovered $800 million, ₦700 billion cash, and drugs worth ₦1 trillion at the residence of Bello El-Rufai, the eldest son of the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.

A terse reports which went viral on various social media platforms and especially on X, formerly twitter claimed that the anti-graft agency discovered millions in foreign currencies and a trillion naira worth of drugs at the residence of the son of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai.

The unverified claim states: “Breaking News: EFCC Discovers $800 Million, ₦700 Billion Cash, and ₦1 Trillion Worth of Drugs at Nasir El-Rufai’s Son’s House in Kaduna.”

According to the claim, the discovery occurred during a surprise raid conducted by the EFCC, during which a violent confrontation reportedly erupted between EFCC personnel and the private security team guarding the property. The alleged altercation led to the deaths of at least two EFCC officers, highlighting the high-stakes nature of the investigation and perceived resistance from those involved.

However, the EFCC speaking on the development on Thursday in a terse statement on its official Facebook account described the claims as a false narrative of its activities.

The EFCC, therefore, urged Nigerians to disregard the reports, stating:

“‘EFCC Discovers $800 Million, ₦700 Billion Cash, and ₦1 Trillion Worth of Drugs at Nasir El-Rufai Son’s House in Kaduna’

This piece of news quoted above is a false narrative of the activities of the EFCC. Members of the public are enjoined to ignore it.”

Earlier, Bello had earlier debunked the claims of raid on his residence.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bello described the allegations as “false” and a calculated effort to distract his public service.

He also denied that he does not own a house in Kaduna and made it clear their family home is in Unguwar Sarki.

Bello’s statement read: “My constituents that I represent know what would happen if I was blessed with such figures.

“For those sponsoring these ignorant attacks, I assure you that we will continue to serve the people, and we will continue to enjoy how it annoys them; adding quality, frank, and honest representation is here to stay in Kaduna North.

“The use of fake news to manipulate public perception and instigate discord, stressing the attempt to connect him to illicit activities through unfounded allegations was not only defamatory but an affront to the principles of justice and fairness.”

In another stated issued on Thursday via his X handle, Bello promised to give reward to anyone who can provide the information of the Twitter user made the claim.

He wrote; “Morning everyone. Any information regarding this specific person will be greatly appreciate. We are currently working on getting it. But if anyone knows and can help, my legal team will appreciate and I’ll add a Jika Hanta reward. Thank you.”
