JUST IN: Resident doctors begin nationwide strike
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has begun a seven-day warning strike over the abduction of their colleague, Dr Ganiyat Popoola who was kidnapped nearly eight months ago.

Dr. Dele Abdullahi, President of NARD, announced the strike during an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council.
According to him, the strike which commenced 12:00 am on Monday is though a warning but total.
“The strike is total, and there will be no concessions or emergency care during this period,” he said.
Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, was abducted on December 27, 2023, along with her husband and nephew.
While her husband was released in March, Popoola and her nephew remain in captivity.
Members of NARD had protested in all tertiary hospitals across the nation to demand Dr Popoola’s release.
