Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a couple attempting to sell their two-year-old son and use the money to sponsor a planned relocation to Canada.

The state police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the couple, aged 22 and 28, (names withheld) were apprehended in the course of selling the boy on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, Hundeyin said the Divisional Police Officer of Isolo Division received information that they visited Isolo General Hospital to try and sell off their child.

According to him, the plan was to use the money from the transaction to first send the man to Canada so that he can hustle.

The statement reads; “Isolo Divisional Police Officer, DPO, received information that a couple went to Isolo General Hospital on Tuesday, at about 2.45 pm, and declared their intention to sell their son. Following the information, operatives from the division swiftly moved to the hospital.

“The baby’s age is two, and he has been rescued. Upon interrogation, the couple confessed that they decided to sell the two years old baby to fund the man traveling to Canada for a greener pasture. However, investigation is ongoing”.
