In a statement released by Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, the incident occurred on Missionary Avenue, Coal Camp, Enugu. Ezeh described the event as both “tragic and very unfortunate” and highlighted the growing problem of vandalism targeting electricity installations within the EEDC network.
Ezeh explained,
“Early this morning, the lifeless body of an unknown suspect was discovered within the premises of a distribution transformer owned by the EEDC. It appears that the individual was electrocuted when power was restored while he was cutting the armored cables.”
He emphasized that vandalism poses a significant challenge to the company, affecting both the quality of service provided to customers and the company’s revenue. Ezeh stressed the need for the support of critical stakeholders to combat this issue effectively.
