Tension as soldiers and traders clash at popular market in Abuja (Video)
There was apprehension at the popular Banex Plaza in Wuse, Abuja following a clash between some military personnel and traders on Saturday.
A video sighted by our correspondent showed a mob descending on some soldiers in the markets where electronic gadgets and mobile phones are mostly sold.
The thugs who broke into groups had slapped, kicked, and beat up the soldiers in uniform.
Some traders had closed for the day and fled home to apparently avoid being caught up in a reprisal attack.
A trader who spoke on the condition of anonymity said trouble began after an argument between the soldiers and some traders over the alleged sale of a faulty phone.
However, hours after the assault, armed soldiers invaded the market chasing people in different directions.
The Defence Headquarters, and the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Onyema Nwachukwu could not be reached for comments as of press time.
