Ogun governor Dapo Abiodun under fire for allowing a king to squat before him (Video)
The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has come under heavy criticism for allowing for allowing a king to squat just to speak to him.
The Governor and the monarch met at a public event in Lagos.
In the video shared on X on Tuesday, the Olu of Itori, Oba Fatai Akamo, in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, was captured squatting to speak with Gov. Abiodun.
The development sparked outrage on social media with many saying it’s disrespectful to the traditional institution.
A former media aide to ex-governor Ayo Fayose, Lere Olayinka reacting said tthe shame is not on the monarch, but on the governor, who is a prince and should know better not to allow the monarch to squat.
He wrote: “Kábíyèsí, Orí Adé, Ọrùn Ìlẹ̀kẹ̀, kneeling to talk to the Imperial Majesty, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State. The shame is not on this Ọba though, it is on the governor, who himself is a prince.”
An X user Ola Taiwo tweeting as @olataiwo6 said; “What a shameful situation. If not for Eto Baba!
Oba AbdulFatai Akamo, the Olu of Itori kneeling down for Gov. Dapo Abiodun 🤯. It’s glaring now that most of these impostors are nothing but errand boy. It shows this is their usual style behind closed door. Very embarrassing 😳”
Another user, Eniola Daniel, tweeting as @UnlimitedEniola wrote; “They call Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun a Prince right?
If he’s a Prince then he would not allow or subject a king to this.
Kábíyèsí, Orí Adé, kneeling to talk to Abiodun here is a slap on the Yoruba race. The shame is not only on this Oba but the town he presides over.”
However, some argued that the governor should not be criticized since the monarch willingly chose to squat.
@OboshiSadi48074 said; “The monarch made his choice to squat, the governor is not obligated to prevent him from squatting, don’t make a case out of nothing.
@abbeycity85 wrote; “He’s the one paying their salaries… And those oba’s too are all corrupt so don’t pity them.
