Jonathan Marcus, a driver, has been apprehended by the police in connection with the brutal murder of Adebola Ezekiel and his wife Abiodun, an elderly couple aged 80 and 79, respectively.

The couple was found lifeless in their Abuja apartment, their throats slashed with daggers, on April 1. Bennett Igweh, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Apo Legislative Quarters.

During a parade, Commissioner Igweh presented Marcus and other suspects. In an interview, Marcus, a resident of Maiduguri, explained his motive for the killings. He revealed that his relationship with the couple, whom he often chauffeured, had deteriorated due to financial disputes and job interference.

Marcus claimed that despite his long-standing employment, he was underpaid by the husband, leading to financial strain for his family. His frustration escalated as the couple allegedly hindered his mechanic work and neglected his financial needs.

“I complained to him, but he would always talk about God,” Marcus said, indicating that his concerns were dismissed.

Marcus confessed to fatally stabbing the couple with a knife, stealing the husband’s ATM card and wallet, and fleeing the scene. He expressed remorse for killing the wife, stating that he did not intend to harm her.

“I didn’t intend to kill the wife, but she was present when I went to harm her husband,” Marcus said. “I did not kill them because of money; I killed them because of the way they did not allow me to do my mechanic work and their behavior towards me.”

“I had been driving him for more than 10 years, but the man never helped me with even N50,000. I killed them out of frustration.”
