Court remands Adamawa varsity lecturer for allegedly raping secondary school leaver

A magistrates’ court in Mubi LGA has remanded a lecturer, Garandi Danjuma Ijudigal, with the Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, in prison for alleged rape.

The lecturer was caught allegedly molesting a secondary school leaver in his office after which the victim’s family filed a case at the magistrates’ court.

Ijudigal, a lecturer in the Department of Geography, was charged before Magistrate Chivi Ali.

Confirming the incident to the Nation, the spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, Sulaiman Ngurore, explained that the case was initially filed without a police report and that the court referred the matter to the police for proper investigation.

He said information gathered in the course of investigation by the police indicted the lecturer for rape, alleging that he sexually assaulted a secondary school leaver after molesting her in his office.

The PPRO said that after the arraignment of the defendant and upon the police getting involved, the prosecution had applied for legal advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He said when the advice is gotten, the case would most likely move to a high court for proper prosecution.
