A three-year-old boy, Abubakar Atiku, has been rescued by the Delta State Police Command, during a raid on the hideout of a six-man kidnap syndicate in Oshimili-South Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that one of the suspects abducted the victim on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, and the victim’s mother, Aisha Yusuf, reported the matter to police station in the Abraka community.

She informed police that her son had been abducted by one Mohammed Isah, 35.

Police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, ‘C’ Division Asaba, CSP Apu Torukeregha, embarked on a frantic search to rescue the abducted child.

While acting on a tip-off, the team reportedly stormed Abraka Market in the Oshimili-South LGA and arrested Isah and arrested five of the suspects, including one physically-disabled.

Upon interrogation, the state Police Public Relations, DSP Bright Edafe, while confirming the incident, said Isah confessed to the crime and led the operatives to arrest three other members of the child stealing syndicate.

He identified the suspects as Ibrahim Sani, 23, Kabiru Ibrahim, 52, and Abubakar Mohammed, a 32-year-old cripple.

Edafe noted that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had been dealing in the business of stealing children and selling them for a huge amount of money.

Edafe said Mohammed, during interrogation, confessed to having agreed to sell the child for N800,000, adding that he was waiting for the buyer when the policemen arrested him.

He noted that the rescued victim had been reunited with his mother, adding that the suspects had been detained for further investigation.
