“Why I Declared Tinubu The Winner Despite Not Having 25% Of The Vote in The FCT” — INEC Chairman Reveals
The 2023 presidential election is the most talked about election in Nigeria, many people weren’t happy with the results, since their preferred candidate didn’t emerge victorious.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given an explanation for selecting Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the presidential election on February 25, despite receiving less than 25% of the vote in the federal capital region.
According to a source from Vanguard Online, INEC’s attorney B. Mahmoud stated that the FCT should be recognized as one of the states of the federation in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.
This was in response to detractors who argued that Tinubu’s victory should not have been recognized due to falling short of the statutory 25% in the federal capital region.
Tinubu defeated other front-runners such as Peter Obi of the Labor Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
