JUST IN: May God help Nigeria – Peter Obi reacts to violence and voter apathy in governorship election
The Labour Party presidential candidate in February 25 elections has reacted to attacks and killings that occasioned the governorship election.
Recall that the governorship and state assembly elections held yesterday, March 18, 2023, across the country were marked with voter apathy and violence.
In Lagos state, politicians hired and unleashed thugs on residents who were out to cast their vote.
Also, at least three persons suspected to be political thugs were killed in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was gathered that the thugs invaded polling units 026 and 004, Gboko South while electoral processes were ongoing and attempted to snatch ballot boxes and the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS).
Obi expressed sadness over such incidents and condoled with families whose loved ones were killed for coming out to exercise their civic responsibilities.
“With sadness, my heart goes deeply to the Nigerians who lost their lives and those who were maimed for participating in such a simple thing as an election,” Obi, who has gone to court to challenge the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, tweeted.
He then prayed and wished a quick recovery of those injured across Lagos State and other places.
“My sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives,” Obi added, calling on the Almighty to heal the broken hearts.
“I pray earnestly that God Almighty will save and help Nigeria out of this precarious situation,” he said.
