Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended campaign activities indefinitely.

This was contained in a tarse statement made by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

According to Akosile, the action was taken due to the current situation in the country occasioned by the scarcity of fuel and currency.

The governor had earlier appealed to Lagosians to exercise patience over the ongoing challenges of cash circulation in the country.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho on Friday, he said the governors have met with President Muhammadu Buhari on measures to remove the hardship.

“The Lagos State Government has observed the tension caused by the slow release of cash through Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and within banking halls.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu today joined a delegation that met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja to deliberate on measures to remove the hardship caused by the scarcity of the new currency.

“Mr. Sanwo-Olu urges residents to remain calm as the government is doing everything possible to normalise the situation. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has promised to put measures in place to ensure residents have access to currency notes released to banks.”
