Pain As Colombian Football Star Andres Balanta Dies During Training
The football world has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of a Colombian football star. Andres Balanta is said to have tragically died after he collapsed during a training session.
According to The Sun, Balanta, who plies his trade in the Argentine First Division with Atletico Tucuman, had joined his teammates for training when he dropped to the ground.
The publication reports that the 22-year-old was pronounced dead after 40 minutes of resuscitation proved futile.
Balanta’s tragic death was confirmed by Atletico Tucuman, with the club’s spokesperson saying:
“We regret to inform you about the death of Andres Balanta.”
“The club’s supporters are deeply saddened today. Of course, we support his family, team-mates and friends,” the spokesperson added. Born in Cali, Balanta had made just seven for Atletico Tucuman, who he joined in the summer.
Balanta had previously played for Colombia’s youth teams and was hoping his summer move to Atletico Tucuman would earn him a call-up for the senior team.
The Colombia FA has since paid a tribute to him, with the federation saying: “The Colombian Football Federation regrets the death of Andres Balanta, player of the Colombia national team in its different divisions.”
