Manchester United release first statement on Mason Greenwood after striker is charged with assault
Manchester United have released their first statement on Mason Greenwood since the striker was charged with assault.
The club maintains Greenwood remains suspended, pending the outcome of the judicial process. Greenwood was arrested again on Saturday for allegedly breaching his bail.
Manchester United released a statement after Mason Greenwood was hit with a number of damaging charges including attempted physical abuse, and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour. Greenwood was initially arrested in January after allegations that came to light through photos and videos that were released online.
The charges relate to the same complainant, and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorized the Greater Manchester Police to charge the forward.
Amid the storm facing Greenwood, fans were eager to learn United’s stance on the issue, and the club released a statement late on Saturday, October 15.
“Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service. He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process.” A statement on the club’s website read.
Greenwood has not featured for United since January and was initially released on bail.
But things took a turn for the worse on Saturday, October 14, with a Greater Manchester spokesperson releasing a statement saying:
“Greater Manchester Police are aware of an allegation regarding a 21-year-old man breaching his bail conditions and an arrest has been made on Saturday 15 October 2022. Enquiries are ongoing at this time.”
