But more details of this astonishing story have emerged. According to France Info, Pogba has informed police that Mathias is part of a blackmail attempt.

Pogba claims he has been subjected to threats and attempted extortion from friends he has known since he was a child, and his brother.

He is said to have a detailed an incident where he was intimidated by two hooded men carrying assault rifles in a Paris apartment and they demanded he hand over €13 million in funds.

They feel they are entitled to this sum as they don’t think Pogba has looked after them in terms of finances.

Remarkably, they have also turned up at the Juventus training ground in Turin, where Pogba is now playing for a second time.

Mbappe’s small part in the story is that the gang threatened to invent a fake news story that Pogba requested a witch doctor cast a spell on the PSG star.
