The Federal Republic of Nigeria gained independence from Britain in the year 1960. Nigeria has rapidly grown to become one of the most respected countries within the African continent. There are currently 36 states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. However, it should be said that we have some states that are no longer in existence. Let us carefully identify some of them.

1. Bendel State

According to a report by The Guardian, this used to be the name of a state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It should be said that Bendel State was in existence until the year 1991. 2. Gongola State

This is another Nigerian State that is no longer in existence. It should be said that Gongola State survived until the year 1991. This information has been confirmed by The Premium Times. Gongola State was scrapped in order to create Adamawa State and Taraba State.
