“South East Governors Rejected Peter Obi When Atiku Chose Him As Running Mate In 2019” – Prof Okonkwo Reveals (Details below)
It is no longer news that Former Anambra state governor, Peter Obi is vying for the position of the president of Nigeria in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.
It would be recalled that Obi was the running mate of former vice president Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election.
A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Professor Obiora Okonkwo has disclosed that Peter Obi was rejected by the South-East governor after Atiku Abubakar selected him to be his running mate.
Speaking to Arise Tv in an exclusive interview, Professor Obiora said Atiku Abubakar made the choice alone without consulting them and they were not happy about the decision.
According to him, when making a decision on a running mate, adequate consultations are needed.
“As in the case of Atiku Abubakar in his last outing, it was obvious that he made the choice alone when he picked Peter Obi as his running mate. When he picked Peter Obi, the South East Governors were quite unhappy because there were no proper consultations. And it had a negative effect on the outcome of the overall results in the last election.”
