Usman Yahaya is a medical student from Sokoto State at Irkutsk State Medical University (IMSU).

Edujandon.com reported that Yahaya has been in detention in Russia for over a month. They also reported last week that Yahaya, a recipient of the Best African Medical student award at the Russia center for scientific research, was first suspended by the medical University when the Sokoto State Government could not pay his overdue scholarship.

Yahaya’s current situation is allegedly orchestrated by the Director of Foreign Students at the Sokoto Scholarship Board who has been taking out Yahaya’s foreign Bursary approved yearly by Sokoto State Scholarship Board since 2016.

Yahaya was alleged to be accompanied by a staff of IMSU and a police officer to the Russian immigration office to sign a document which is said to be a deportation form.

Though the President of the Association of Nigerian students in Europe Mr. Bashiru Muhammad had called on Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to intervene in the Issue and rescue Yahaya.

Other corporate bodies and anti-corruption bodies related to the case have been called upon to intervene in the right of the student.
