Sergei Lavrov has said there is a “real risk” of the conflict in Ukraine escalating to nuclear war after 931 settlements were freed from Russian control.

In an interview with Russian news agencies, Russia’s foreign minister Lavrov criticised Kyiv’s approach to peace talks, stating that Moscow’s “goodwill” was not “reciprocal”.

He said that the Kremlin was striving to prevent nuclear war at all costs, however, he added: “The risks now are considerable.I would not want to elevate those risks artificially. Many would like that.

“The danger is serious, real. And we must not underestimate it.”

This news comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly address that Ukraine has liberated 931 settlements from Russia.

Mr Zelensky added that it was only a matter of time before Ukrainians liberate all their land from Russian troops.
