Bama town in Bama Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State came under attack by Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements on Monday night.

Newsbreak.ng reports that there were sporadic shootings in the outskirt of the town.

The Nigerian Army troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) repelled the attack, killing many insurgents.

The terrorists reportedly made attempt to infiltrate Bama town at about 7:30pm through the western flanks with an unconfirmed number of ISWAP foot soldiers on gun-trucks.

The troops swiftly engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to withdraw and flee towards Sambisa forest. Many of them were killed and several others wounded. One soldier also paid the supreme price during the encounter.

Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria, is facing jihadist attacks, with the terrorists also carrying out cross-border raids.
