Jim Carrey ‘sickened’ by Oscars standing ovation for Will Smith after he slapped Chris Rock (Video)

Jim Carrey says he is “sickened” by the standing ovation given to Will Smith after the Hollywood star’s “selfish” Oscars slap – suggesting Chris Rock should be “suing Will for $200 million”..

“I was sickened. I was sickened by the standing ovation,” Mr Carrey told CBS.

“I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse.”

His remarks follow one of the most viral moments of Oscars television which saw Mr Smith strike host Chris Rock after the comedian delivered an ill-received joke directed at Jada Pinkett Smith.

Mr Smith apologised to the academy in a speech moments later while he accepted the Best Actor award for King Richard.

The actor posted an online apology on Monday to Mr Rock, condemning “violence in all of its forms”.

Mr Rock will not be pressing charges against Mr Smith, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Mr Carrey speculated as to why the comedian would not want to pursue legal action.

“He didn’t want the hassle,” Mr Carrey said.

“I would have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million because that video is going to be there forever. It’s going to be ubiquitous. That insult is going to last a very long time.”
