Some schoolgirls discovered smoking shisha in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, have been allowed to return to class after being suspended for weeks..

The girls, all of whom are pupils at Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School in Onikolobo, Ogun State, were discovered smoking shisha while recording themselves at one of their classmates’ house.

The school’s leadership was alleged to have expelled the kids indefinitely when the video went viral.

The problem had been undertaken by the Ogun Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, and measures were made to reintegrate the schoolgirls.

The teens were alleged to have gone through a series of counseling sessions before being allowed to return to class on Tuesday.

During a visit to the school, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbagbu, stated that the kids will be subjected to manual labor as a kind of punishment in order to act as a deterrence to others.

Mrs Abosede Ogunleye, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, advised students in the state to avoid actions that might endanger their future.

Ogunleye said: “The learners have been counselled and made to undergo some punishment and I want to believe they have changed for the better. So, I want to encourage you not to abuse, stigmatize or call them names, instead advise them and be their friends.”
