The Queen has agreed to strip the Duke of York of his honorary military roles and royal patronages, Buckingham Palace has announced..

The duke will also no longer use his style of His Royal Highness in any official capacity, a royal source said.

It is a significant blow to Andrew, 61, who is facing civil trial for sexual assault after a judge ruled on Wednesday that the case could go ahead.

The Palace said in a statement: “With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and royal patronages have been returned to the Queen. The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen.”
