Manchester United football director, John Murtough has blamed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sack on their 4-1 loss to Watford earlier in the season..

He also insisted the Red Devils’ board did not approach another manager before sacking Solskjaer and expected the Norwegian to turn things around.

Solskjaer was shown the exit door at Old Trafford in November after an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road that came after a series of bad results.

“After the promising early-season results, things went off plan. As a club, we felt Ole had earned the right to be given the chance to turn things round, but didn’t get a reaction after the international break, and the Watford game made it clear change was needed

“Out of respect for Ole, we did not approach other managers before he left,” said Murtough, according to Metro..

Michael Carrick was given the caretaker role following Solskjaer’s departure while the club concluded a move to appoint Ralf Rangnick to take charge at Old Trafford for six months
