The star told CNN that he is keen to help PSG reach the Champions League quarter finals: “All I am thinking about is beating Real Madrid in February and March”.

In just over three days’ time, Kylian Mbappé will be able to start negotiating with any club he likes. But in all likelihood, his decision will not be known until after PSG have played both legs of their Champions League Last 16 clash with Real Madrid. Just 24 hours after picking up the Globe Soccer Player of the Year Award, the PSG star was interviewed by CNN and spoke about his request to leave the club over the summer as well as the crunch meetings with Madrid .

Do you regret asking PSG to leave? “I was honest. I said what my heart told me to say (…) I am very happy that I stayed PSG, Paris is my home city too. I’m French… I want to win everything this season”.

When asked whether he could be playing for Real Madrid next season, he replied laughing: “Now is not the moment to talk about my future. All I am thinking about is beating Real Madrid in February and March. No, I won’t be going to Real Madrid in January. I am going to finish the season at PSG, without any doubt. I want to give my all to win a major trophy for the fans, I think I deserve to”.

Champions League tie against Real Madrid: “Tenemos que estar preparados. Es el momento. Es el momento más importante de la temporada. Por supuesto, queremos dar un paso adelante ahora. Hace dos años hicimos final, semifinal después, pero ahora queremos ganar la Champions”.

Staying in Paris: “Paris is my city, I was born here and it is where I grew up. Playing for PSG is an incerdible feeling – with your family and friends close by”.

Playing alongside Messi: “It’s a huge pleasure that I will be able to tell my children and my friends that I played with Messi. We have to enjoy watching him in Paris… It’s an incredible moment in the history of football”.
