Man City vs Norwich: City thrash the Canaries as Grealish nets home debut goal

Manchester City bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Tottenham with a commanding victory over Norwich at the Etihad this afternoon..

City showed their lack of fitness at Tottenham, losing their opening game of the season, but put that right against newly-promoted Norwich today. The Etihad Stadium was at full capacity for the first time in 18 months, as fans finally returned in full strength.

Pep Guardiola included Ilkay Gundogan in his starting XI after the German overcame an injury scare last week at Spurs, but Phil Foden remained out and was joined on the sidelines by John Stones and Kevin De Bruyne for fitness reasons.

City started well, with Ferran Torres and Gabriel Jesus combining to force an own goal, before Torres had a goal harshly ruled out for an earlier foul. Jack Grealish scored his first City goal at the back post before the break, and Aymeric Laporte converted from a corner in the second half. Raheem Sterling came off the bench to score a fourth as City belatedly got off the mark for the new season, and Riyad Mahrez also scored after coming on to seal a five-star victory.
