Legendary Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has convinced Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the club.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ronaldo is now set for a shock return to Old Trafford, after speaking on the phone with Ferguson..

It was the Scot that brought Ronaldo to United from Sporting Lisbon as a teenager.

The Portugal captain went on to spend six years at Old Trafford earlier in his career.

Under Ferguson’s tutelage, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles and the Champions League, before he left for Real Madrid.

The 36-year-old was widely expected to sign for United’s rivals Manchester City this weekend until he spoke with his former mentor on Friday morning.

He will now make an emotional return to the club where he won his first Ballon d’Or prize.
